The legal team of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi on Friday sought early hearing. He asked them to appeal to the city-run district court and told them that a lawyer had been convicted of illegal marriage and given a sentence. In February this year, on the eve of national elections in Pakistan, a court ruled that the couple's marriage in 2018 was illegal and sentenced them to seven years in prison.
Khan's wife is accused of not fulfilling the Islamic waiting period after divorcing her ex-husband and marrying Khan.  The couple signed their marriage contract, known as "Nikkah", in a secret ceremony in January 2018, seven months before the first ever prime minister.
Bibi's ex-husband, Khawar Maneka, to whom she has been married for 30 years, filed a complaint accusing the couple of violating the country's marriage laws. Last week, the Islamabad District Court decided not to rule on several appeals over Maneka lack of confidence in the hearing and requested the Islamabad Assembly High Court to transfer the matter to another appellate court.
Appearing in court, Khan's legal team lawyer Niaz ullah Niazi said, "This is one of the false cases filed against Imran Khan and his wife, and since the case was delayed for months, we requested an early hearing and verdict from the court." , aforementioned.                         Earlier, District Court Muhammad Afzal Majoka accepted the petition on Friday, but the lawyer failed to appear for the hearing, prompting the judge to issue a notice to the complainant, saying that the court could hear the case without him. do it now.

Niazi told  that it was unprecedented for a district judge to complete all hearings and at the end of the day ask the high court to amend the case instead of giving its verdict. "This is a criminal appeal against the decision, and the court usually ends in two or three hearings," he said,
adding that lawyers in the case used many "tactics and excuses" to delay the decision. The court postponed the case to June 11 and reminded the complainant to present his defense at the next hearing. Khan has been in jail since August last year and faces various charges.
Last month, his wife was also transferred with him from his home in Banigala in Islamabad to Adiala prison in Rawalpindi, where he was kept for three months after his conviction.
